The PS 150 Chess Club and Team is a parent- and grant-funded after-school program built to give students a competitive edge - both on the board and beyond. Launched this year, the club has quickly become one of the most popular programs in the school, with more than 75 students already participating. The program is further strengthened by the close collaboration with school leadership, reflecting a shared commitment to student enrichment.

Our program blends high-level instruction with an inclusive, nurturing environment where beginner and experienced players alike can thrive. Students learn from a team of four dedicated coaches, including two International Masters, who not only bring elite expertise but also teach during the school day, creating a consistent learning experience while fostering a love of the game.

At PS 150, chess is more than competition. It’s about developing critical thinking, patience, focus, and confidence - skills that translate directly into the classroom and everyday life.
